I chose this Asus as a replacement for my 4 year old custom built Dell laptop w/19inch screen. The Dell died a meandering, slow death over the four years, and I swore that I would never purchase another. I was surprised to find that the Asus 16inch screen feels large to me, even though I am used to something much larger. I absolutely love the fact that this laptop is very light weight and portable. Lugging around my very heavy (likely because of the 19" screen) Dell was inconvenient. My old laptop battery was a huge bone of contention. The Dell battery would only hold a charge of about 60 mins., and it had to be replaced twice in the four years that I owned the machine. At an expense of $200 each time. The battery itself was also very heavy, and because it sat at the back of the laptop it dragged down on the power cord if using the laptop on your lap. This caused the cord to break and fray. The Asus power cord sits off to the side and is very, very lightweight. The battery has a great charge life of about 4 hours, which is terrific is you're like me and used to the older laptops with hardly any battery life.
The facial recognition security feature is a fun addition. I was also pleasantly surprised that Windows 7 is really cool, interactive and easy to use, without all of the problems of Vista. The touchpad is a bit sensitive and has taken some getting used to for me. However, my favorite part about the Asus is that it is virtually silent! The fan makes almost no perceptible sound. The vents are located on the front and back, not on the bottom like my old Dell. Very smart design feature. The only negative is the laptop finish. It has a high gloss finish which leaves it covered in fingerprints and dust constantly! I keep a small chamois cloth just to wipe it down every other day or so. Other than that it is a really fast, nicely made, well equipped machine.
